In June 2018, there were 150,594 employees in the APS.  This was down 0.9 per cent from June 2017.  There were 136,175 ongoing employees and 14,419 non-ongoing employees, down 8 per cent and 2.9 per cent, respectively from June 2017.

The average APS employee is female, 43 years of age, employed as an APS 6, is located in Canberra, is working in a service delivery role and has 11 years of service in the APS.
