APS Bargaining: An important update for all APS staff

I am excited to share that APS-wide bargaining has moved into the next stage of negotiations. APS Bargaining matters to every public servant. This is about your employment conditions, so it’s important you stay informed.

We’ve made significant progress since my last update

The Bargaining Taskforce and I have continued working through the more than 1,500 claims received from union and individual employee bargaining representatives. We are listening carefully, considering different experiences and identifying where greater commonality across the APS may be appropriate.

New proposed positions on your conditions have been tabled

Yesterday, I started tabling the proposed Commonwealth positions. The proposed Commonwealth positions outline changes to conditions that we’re proposing to make to your employment conditions to bring greater commonality to the APS. We have tabled positions on learning and development, study assistance and professional qualifications as part of a Capability and Professional Development common conditions for discussion with bargaining representatives.

It’s important you know that a proposed position is not an agreed outcome. I will keep listening to feedback, considering different perspectives and negotiating with bargaining representatives before positions are settled.

You can read more about the proposed positions on the APSC website, including what is being proposed and what it may mean for you. Understanding the positions now makes it easier for you to follow negotiations as they progress.

I will keep you updated as we continue to table more proposed positions as negotiations continue.

What comes next

Reaching this stage is a significant step forward. There is still important work ahead. Thanks to all the bargaining representatives, agencies, and employees who have contributed to the process so far.
