APS bargaining updates: APS staff survey results
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Australian Public Service (APS) bargaining staff survey.
More than 39,000 APS employees had their say on APS bargaining, representing nearly 30% of the APS. Responses were received from employees across 107 agencies.
The survey asked APS employees about the employment conditions that shape their experience of working in the APS.
Employees were asked to identify the employment conditions:
- they are most satisfied with
- they are least satisfied with
- that matter most when deciding whether to join or stay in the APS.
What you told us
Responses indicate that employees:
- are most satisfied with workplace flexibility (79%), leave entitlements (56%), working hours (55%), and superannuation (54%)
- are least satisfied with base salary (72%), development and career progression (47%), and performance management (28%)
- base salary (79%), workplace flexibility (76%), and leave entitlements (56%) as the conditions that matter most.

How we will use these results
The results are one source of evidence to help shape our proposed positions for this round of APS-wide bargaining. This will support fair and genuine negotiations with employees and their bargaining representatives on terms and conditions that continue to enable the APS to deliver for the Australian community.
We will also consider other feedback and evidence collected throughout the broader bargaining process.
