APS Reform

This Progress Report is the third annual update on progress towards the Government’s public sector reform agenda. APS Reform strengthens the public service, enabling it to adapt to changes in public needs and expectations of government.

The Government has appointed Ms Lynelle Briggs AO to lead a Review of public sector board appointments processes.

This discussion paper, written by Dr Sarah Ball, delves into existing ideas about collaboration and proposes new potential innovations based on past experiences.

In July 2023 a workshop was held with early and mid-career researchers aimed at identifying mechanisms to enhance collaboration between the research sector and Australian Public Service.

This 2019 report ‘Trust in Australian Regional Public Services’ comprises outputs of work commissioned by the Trust and Transparency Team (then Citizen Experience Survey Team) and was produced by the Institute for Governance and Policy Analysis, University of Canberra.

In 2020, the Department asked Monash University to research how young people experience Australian public services.

This Progress Report outlines the APS’s approach to undertaking multi-year transformation of the APS through the Government’s APS Reform agenda. It provides an update for the Minister of Public Sector Reform, the Parliament, the public, APS staff and interested parties on progress to date.
