On Tuesday 15 July 2025, the APS HR Professional Stream welcomed HR practitioners from across the region to a vibrant networking event held in Sydney. Hosted by Head of Profession, Jacqui Curtis, the gathering provided a valuable forum for HR professionals to exchange ideas, explore current challenges, and build connections with colleagues across the Australian Public Service.
Jacqui opened the event by highlighting the strength and diversity of the APS HR community, which now comprises over 6,000 members. She spoke to leadership learnings, the early impacts of emerging technology and the dynamic environment we are operating in as HR Professionals.
The event featured a panel discussion between:
- Rachel Houghton, Chief People Officer, Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts
- Simon Delamont, Executive Director, Fair Work Ombudsman; and
- Michael Rosmarin, National President and Chair of the AHRI Board.
Together, the panelists offered insights into fostering a culture of mutual respect with colleagues, Speak Up Culture, and integrity in the HR profession, drawing on their experiences across public and private sector agencies. Attendees were encouraged to reflect on the importance of how the professionalisation of our industry is not only valued but continues to be genuinely desired.
The Sydney networking event reinforced the role of community in strengthening HR practice across the APS and offered a meaningful opportunity for HR professionals to connect, learn, and share.
