The HR foundational skills and capabilities project aims to build a shared understanding of core HR functions across agencies of all sizes, enhance foundational capabilities, and strengthen discipline-based networks.
In June 2025, a pilot workshop titled HR Case Management – Managing Potential Misconduct in the APS was delivered virtually to 25 participants. Designed and facilitated by subject matter experts from across the APS, the session explored a preliminary assessment of a potential code of conduct matter. The workshop encouraged open discussion and cross-agency knowledge sharing, helping participants broaden their perspectives and refine their approaches to managing complaints.
Supporting materials – including a presentation pack, facilitator and participant guides, and instructional videos – were developed to ensure consistency and accessibility. Feedback was received from 60% of attendees, with 100% recommending the workshop to their colleagues.
One participant shared, "The workshop gave us the opportunity to share knowledge across agencies, which helped me adapt how my team approaches these assessments. It was engaging and supportive, breaking down a complex topic into manageable steps. I found it extremely beneficial and highly recommend it."
The project team is working on priority topics for future workshops and will be inviting agencies to help co-design, deliver and participate. Keep an eye out for nominations! This cross-agency initiative is another way we are working towards a more connected and capable HR community across the APS.
