On 16 June 2025, the APS HR Professional Stream hosted a webinar Evidence-Based HR Management, attracting over 400 network members. The session featured Professor Rob Briner from Queen Mary University of London, a leading expert in organisational psychology, and was facilitated by Assistant Commissioner Melinda Bopping of the Australian Taxation Office.
Professor Briner introduced the concept of Purposeful Change, prompting participants to reflect on the practical use of evidence in HR decision-making. Key themes included relying on quality information from a variety of sources, using structured approaches to diagnose workplace issues, and ensuring HR work aligns meaningfully with broader organisational goals.
The presentation encouraged HR professionals to focus on informed choices, rather than aim for perfection. This was an idea that resonated with attendees and sparked thoughtful conversation throughout the session.
Overall, the event offered useful insights into how evidence-based practices can enrich day-to-day HR work and marked another opportunity for the APS HR Professional Stream Network to share knowledge and learn from leading thinkers in the field.
