The Australian Public Service at a glance 30 June 23

The Australian Public Service at a glance at June 2023. This infographic presents various statistics relating to the APS workforce.  The first image provides the APS headcount of 170,332 at 30 June 2023, which is a 6.9% increase from the June 2022 headcount.
image provides details about patterns of work. Full-time employees make up 82.7% of the APS workforce, an increase of 1.7% from June 2022. Part-time employees make up 12.7% of the APS workforce, a decrease of 0.5% from June 2022. Casual employees make up 4.5% of the APS workforce, a decrease of 1.3% from December 2021.
Ongoing employees make up 88.7% of the APS while non-ongoing employees represent 11.3%. The proportion of non-ongoing employees increased by 4.4% during 2022-23. During the 2022-23 financial year, there were 22,031 ongoing engagements and 11,798 ongoing separations.
This image shows a bar chart of age groups.  15.3% of APS employees are under the age of 30, 24.4% are between the age of 30 to 39,  27.6% are between 40 to 49, and  32.6% of APS employees are 50 years old and older.
The next image provides details about Diversity and Pattern of Work.   First Nations employees make up 3.5% of the APS workforce, a decrease of 0.2% from June 2022. 	Employees with a disability make up 5.1% of the APS workforce, an increase of 0.1% from June 2022. Females make up 60.4% of the APS workforce, no change from June 2022. Employees born overseas make up 23.9% of the APS workforce, an increase of 0.8% from June 2022.
The next image also shows a bar chart for the Classification Levels in the APS. Employees at classifications APS 3 and less make up 15.3% of the APS. APS 4 employees make up 16.7%. APS 5 employees 14.2%. APS 6 employees 22.9%. EL 1 employees 20.2%.  EL 2 employees 8.8%. Employees at all SES classifications combined make up 1.9% of the APS.

Australian Capital Territory has 64,943 employees which equates to 38.1% of the APS workforce. New South Wales has 28,285 employees or 16.6%. Victoria has 28,536 employees or 16.8%. Queensland has 21,557 employees or 12.7%. South Australia has 11,259 employees or 6.6%. Western Australia has 8,144 employees or 4.8%. Tasmania has 4,187 employees or 2.5%. Northern Territory has 2,014 employees
