APS Employment Database interactive interface (APSEDii)
What is APSEDii?
APSEDii stands for the ‘Australian Public Service Employment Database internet interface’. The latest interactive interface is a style presentation of characteristics and movements of the Australian Public Service (APS) workforce.
Where does the data come from?
The data is sourced from the APS Employment Database (APSED). This data comes from agencies’ human resources information systems and includes employee movements such as engagements, promotions, transfers and separations. Agencies routinely provide data to the Australian Public Service Commission in accordance with the requirements outlined in Sections 41 and 44 of the Public Service Act 1999 (PS Act).
APSEDii only reports data on employees covered by the PS Act. Employees in Commonwealth-owned companies, statutory authorities, the Australian Defence Force and government business enterprises who are not employed under the PS Act are not included. State and local government employees are also not included.
More detailed information on APSED and APSEDii can be found on the APSED page of the Australian Public Service Commission website.
For any specific queries, the APSEDii team can be contacted by email at apsed@apsc.gov.au
APSEDii is presented in the form of multiple dashboard reports.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics’ recommended set of core data to determine an individual’s cultural and linguistic background includes: ‘country of birth’; ‘main language other than English spoken at home’; ‘proficiency in spoken English’; and ‘Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander status’. The Australian Public Service Commission captures these metrics, in addition to a number of others that examine cultural and linguistic diversity for APS employees through two main sources: the APS employment database and the APS employee census. The Australian Public Service Commission also directly asks employees about their self-identified cultural and linguistic status through the annual APS employee census. Data from APSED and the APS employee census are used to inform the annual State of the Service Report.
