SFIA provides a common language that supports technical skills development, career planning and workforce management.
It supports digital, data, cyber and IT workforce planning across federal and state agencies, as well as private sector companies, promoting consistent skills management and mobility. Through our participation we influence how SFIA evolves. In October 2024, SFIA version 9 will be released, which includes new skills in disciplines like data, finance, AI, and cyber security.
The Australian Public Service Commission (APSC) uses SFIA to help upskill public sector employees within its APS Career Pathfinder, a free tool that helps people explore digital and other career options in government.
SFIA is a tool every organisation in the country can use, at no cost. All federal agencies and their employees are encouraged to adopt SFIA-supported practices to build a modern, agile, and digitally-capable workforce.
