A little over six months ago, the Independent Parliamentary Expenses Authority (IPEA) was established as a statutory authority to provide advice to parliamentarians and their staff regarding travel expenses and allowances.
IPEA's core functions include auditing and reporting on parliamentarians’ work expenses. The agency advises parliamentarians and their staff on travel and work related expenses to ensure taxpayer money is being spent efficiently, effectively and ethically.
IPEA has been helping parliamentarians navigate the new principles based framework which began on 1 January 2018. The agency has increased the frequency of reporting on parliamentarians’ work expenses on a quarterly basis. More than 120,000 travel related payments have been processed during this financial year.
