Australians have reduced the amount of lost and unclaimed super by $420 million in 2017-18 but there's still $17.5 billion waiting to be found. The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) is asking, does any of it belong to you, your friends, or your family?
You may have lost track of your super if you've changed your name, address, job or lived overseas - things many people do at some point in their lives.
The ATO has released data showing the amount of lost and unclaimed super that’s waiting to be found in postcodes across Australia. Someone in Tasmania is missing more than $220,000 worth of super. This could make a real difference to their retirement!
To see if you have lost track of your super, login to your mygov account and link to the ATO. From there, you can view your super account details, including any that have been lost or forgotten about, and you can consolidate your accounts.
The ATO suggests looking at how much lost super is in your postcode and checking if any of it is yours.
