The ‘APS Strategic Workforce Analysis and Reporting Guide’ has been developed by the APSC in consultation with agencies on the APS Workforce Planning Working Group and Practice Group.
An agency’s workforce is one of its largest assets and investments and, as such, there is a business imperative to understand, manage and plan for it properly. The purpose of the ‘APS Strategic Workforce Analysis and Reporting Guide’ is to:
- assist in re-positioning strategic workforce reporting within agencies;
- improve how the workforce is monitored and measured to identify workforce-related risks;
- support effective workforce management and planning to deliver agency business outcomes; and
- improve communication between HR practitioners and key business stakeholders.
The guide establishes a consistent approach to workforce reporting across the APS, and provides a common understanding of a discrete set of workforce metrics that are aligned to reporting at a whole-of-government level. It will assist in improving organisational decision-making to effectively mitigate workforce risks as they relate to the delivery of agency business outcomes. Effective, targeted strategic workforce reporting enables the appropriate workforce strategies to be implemented, or existing strategies to be adjusted (or ceased) to ensure the required workforce is achieved and sustained, and workforce risks are mitigated.
