In 2017, the Department of Education and Training kicked some big reform goals and we’d like to share a few…
One million Australian families are set to benefit from the Child Care Reforms that were passed this year. These reforms will provide greater access to subsidised early learning and childcare for Australian families. This was a major policy achievement for the department. The priority is now to communicate key changes that will be introduced in July 2018 to parents, guardians and child care providers.
Quality Schools reforms will introduce needs-based funding and increased investment for Australian schools from 2018. The new funding arrangements – an additional $23.4 billion over the next decade – will ensure students with the same need in the same school will attract the same level of support from the Commonwealth.
This year, we also saw the VET Student Loans program replace VET FEE-HELP. This new program helps to address skills shortages and protection for students across Australia’s vocational education and training system.
We’re proud of what the department has achieved in 2017 and are looking forward to the year ahead.
