NextStep was a pilot program established by the Australian Public Service Commission (APSC) as an entry-level Traineeship program into the Australian Public Service (APS) for people with disability.
The APS remains committed to improving the representation of people with disability in its workforce. The Government has committed to introducing a new 7 per cent employment target for people with a disability across the APS by 2025. The APSC has commenced work on evaluating the current APS Disability Employment Strategy, which will inform the development of a new Strategy in 2020.
The APSC also supports agencies to apply Affirmative Measure – disability to job vacancies and to implement inclusive recruitment practices.
Where else can I find employment opportunities in the Australian Public Service?
There are a number of programs and initiatives aimed at attracting and retaining people with disability into the APS.
All APS vacancies covering a period of more than 18 months, including graduate opportunities, are advertised online at APSjobs Or on individual agency websites and jobseeker sites. The APS encourages people with disability to apply for any position.
RecruitAbility encourages the employment of people with disability in the Australian Public Service (APS). If you meet the definition of disability, you can apply for jobs advertised under Affirmative Measure – disability employment or by opting into the RecruitAbility scheme.
