Rosemary Huxtable PSM, is Secretary of the Australian Department of Finance. She is responsible for a range of significant services delivered by Finance including supporting the delivery of the Australian Government Budget, oversight of the financial framework of Australian government agencies, shareholder aspects of government business enterprises and the ongoing management of the Australian Government’s non-defence domestic property portfolio and key asset sales.
Finance also provides strategic advice, policy development and service provision contributing to the effective and efficient delivery of government activities including shared and common services, the coordinated procurement of certain whole of government services and public service modernisation.
Additionally, Finance provides advice on work expenses and allowances to parliamentarians and their employees, provides general insurance services to government agencies and promotes improved risk management..
Ms Huxtable joined Finance in June 2013 as Deputy Secretary of Budget and Financial Reporting and has led Finance's contributions to 11 economic updates including four Budgets. Prior to joining Finance, Ms Huxtable was a Deputy Secretary in the Department of Health and Ageing with responsibility for policies and programs in the areas of ageing and aged care, mental health and e-health. She has been a key player in significant health reforms, particularly those to Medicare, the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme and hospital financing. Ms Huxtable was a member of the Senior Executive Service (SES) of the Health Department since 2003 and was first promoted to the Commonwealth SES in 1993.
Ms Huxtable has worked extensively in the areas of health and community services across the public and private sectors, including a period on ministerial staff, managing a private consulting business based in Western Australia, and 25 years’ experience in Commonwealth administration.
In 2005 Ms Huxtable received a Public Service Medal for her work on Medicare.
