The ATO has produced a guide for public servants to consider when claiming deductions. The guide covers the most common deductions made by public servants, although we encourage you to check out the ATO website if you need more specific information.
If in doubt, remember the three golden rules when claiming deductions for work-related expenses:
- you must have spent the money yourself and not have been reimbursed,
- the expense must be directly related to earning your income,
- you must have a record to prove it.
