Programs, policy and strategy

The Geoscience Australia Inclusive Culture Program focuses on five diversity groups:

  • Gender
  • Age
  • Indigenous Australians
  • People with a disability
  • Multicultural diversity

Geoscience Australia's Cultural Reference Group, chaired by our CEO, champions change, consults with employees and meets regularly to monitor the implementation of our Inclusive Culture Program. The Inclusive Culture Program is the responsibility of the Director of People and Culture, and is reviewed on an annual basis.

The Geoscience Australia Gender Strategy 2015-18 is a component of GA's Inclusive Culture Program. The Strategy contains our Gender Action Plan and three Focus Areas, along with means of monitoring, review and evaluation.

Focus area 1: Building an inclusive and equitable workforce culture.

Focus area 2: Supporting a flexible and empowering workplace

Focus area 3: Aspiring to improve gender representation

Flexible Working Policy contains information on GA's flexible working arrangements, not limited to:

  • Part-time work
  • Home based work
  • Job sharing

Initiatives and networks

Women in Leadership Seminar Series is coordinated by Corporate Services (supported by networks such as the Women's Network), which provides a forum for employees of GA to hear from women internal and external to GA on topics of leadership and their journeys taken.

GA's Women's Network is a staff driven network currently co-facilitated by both male and female facilitators in effort to promote male engagement. The network has an SES level sponsor and is supported by Corporate Services. The Network aims to influence the progression of gender equality and equity in the workplace. Examples of how this is achieved includes the facilitation of events such as workshops, and contributions to internal policy consultation periods. The GA Women's Network has only recently begun connecting with other networks within the APS. Recent interactions such as through the Cross Agency Women's Network have been highly valued and continued networking throughout the APS is an ongoing priority.

GA Carer's Group is a recently established staff driven network for employees with caring responsibilities. The group meets regularly to provide support to carers, networking opportunities and an additional means for staying connected with the workplace particularly during periods of extended caring related leave.
