Emma Farrell

Director of Respondent and Collection Methodology
Australian Bureau of Statistics

Emma has a BA with Honours in Psychology from the ANU. Beginning at the ABS doing telephone reminders to business survey non-respondents, Emma has spent her career building an expert team of social scientists supporting the development of high quality questionnaires and effective survey communication. Emma has helped design five Population Censuses in a row, and has particular interest in web form usability and engaging the public to interact with the government electronically. Emma has presented her work internationally, e.g. at the World Congress of the International Statistical Institute in Dublin in 2011, and the questionnaire design standards produced by her section are available on the ABS website. Emma also works part-time, balancing the joys and demands of her work with those of raising two small children.

Emma Perkins

Emma Perkins is a passionate senior communications and events director, with demonstrated acumen for developing, implementing and evaluating successful communication, media and event strategies for global and domestic organisations.

With an excellent knowledge of government and corporate communication practices, and social media marketing, Emma's skills and expertise have contributed to the enhancement of, and engagement with, a wide variety of products, programs and policies.

Emma has a Bachelor of Marketing from James Cook University, and a Master of Public Relations from the University of Southern Queensland. She is currently pursuing French studies at the Australian National University.

Jim McGrath

Director of Media and Engagement
Department of Veterans’ Affairs

Jim McGrath is a Project Director at the Department of Veterans’ Affairs. He has over 20 years’ experience in government media and public relations roles, having also worked for Centrelink and the Departments of Health and Finance, amongst others. Jim is a qualified trainer who has worked in the disability sector and is also an accomplished playwright and theatre producer.
