Public Sector Workforce Planning Community of Practice

The Workforce Planning Community of Practice brings together workforce planners, data analysts, recruiters and HR practitioners from across the Commonwealth, State and Territory public sectors.

They have a virtual community of nearly 300 people on GovTeams, and last month brought nearly 150 people together for the 5th Public Sector Workforce Planning Community of Interest Event. This group represented more than 50 Commonwealth agencies as well as the ACT and Queensland Governments.

Hosted by the APSC, attendees heard an update on the Whole of APS Workforce Strategy. They also had the opportunity to have their say about priorities for the strategy, and how a common approach to workforce strategy could drive sustained and significant change. 

For the first time, the event was also livestreamed on the GovTeams Collaboration Platform.

Erin Murphy from the Department of Communications and the Arts and Adina Leu from the Australian Financial Security Authority spoke about their workforce planning journeys. They shared a number of practical tips and hints on how agencies can start their workforce plan from scratch.

Allan Mclean and Reika Cunningham from the ACT Shared Services Office spoke about how they partner with other agencies and use secondments and skill sharing to tackle capability gaps identified through their own strategic workforce planning.

Recordings and presentations from the event are available through the GovTeams community. Planning is already underway for the 6th event for this community of practice, to be held later this year.
