Get involved in Mental Health Month with a ‘Wellbeing Priori-Tea’

Mental Health Month is held annually in October to raise community awareness and understanding of mental illness. The aim is to reduce the stigma and discrimination associated with mental illness and promote positive mental health and wellbeing.

Each year, 1 in 5 Australians experience a mental health issue. About half of all individuals will experience issues with mental health in their lifetime. This could be you, a loved one, a family member, a friend, a colleague, or a neighbour.

The 2019 theme for Mental Health Month in the ACT is Conversations and Connection. Conversations are crucial to support mental health and wellbeing and reinforce that we are not alone. Feeling connected to each other and our communities builds confidence, gives us a sense of belonging and brings meaning to our lives.

Inspired by this theme, the ACT Government is asking ACT workplaces to host a Wellbeing Priori-tea! It can be a morning tea, afternoon tea or high tea, and you can choose to raise donations for a mental health charity. All they ask is that you take a break and make mental health a priority.

To get the conversation started at your workplace, register your event online. You’ll receive the Wellbeing Priori-tea pack, which includes a quiz. You’ll also gain access to a variety of helpful wellbeing tools and resources. When you register your organisation, you’ll be listed as a partner on the bottom of the webpage.

There are already 35 events planned across the ACT that you can attend. These events aim to celebrate positive wellbeing, reduce stigma associated with mental illness and raise awareness of mental health. Find an event and register your Wellbeing Priori-Tea at www.mentalhealthmonthact.org.
