New HR Professional Stream launched
On 28 October, the Australian Public Service Commissioner, Peter Woolcott AO, released the APS human resource (HR) Professional Stream Strategy.
The event was attended by more than 270 people, and livestreamed to over 1,100 at Town Hall events in 20 locations around the country.
It’s the first of a number of professional streams emerging in the Australian Public Service which collectively will provide formal, focused professionalisation of the APS workforce. Mr Woolcott will be Head of Professions and have oversight across the APS of the models and be the conduit to the Secretaries Board.
“The Strategy includes initiatives that will help identify the core, long-term capability needs, standards and career pathways to support HR professionals in the APS. It will draw on public, private, domestic and international experience and best practice,” said Mr Woolcott.
At the launch, it was announced Ms Jacqui Curtis will be the APS HR Head of Profession. In this role, Ms. Curtis will champion strategic HR capability and strong collaboration.
The role will be rotated every two years between relevant senior executives to share ownership across APS agencies and leverage diversity of thinking over time.
Ms. Curtis said “Strategic HR is at the centre of APS reform and we are the human resource experts that our business relies on for professional advice to ensure they have the right workforce and culture to deliver organisational outcomes.”
