Alex, the virtual assistant scopes digital excellence award

Meet Alex, the world's first virtual assistant for intellectual property enquiries. Alex was one of the winning entries at this year’s digital excellence awards hosted by the National Archives of Australia (NAA).

Alex successfully manages IP Australia's significant volume of out-of-hours phone calls and transactions. Alex has supported over 85,000 conversations with 83% accuracy and has resolved 84% of the enquiries since the virtual assistant was launched. Almost 40% of IP Australia’s transactions occur outside of business hours.

Launching Information Awareness Month, the NAA awards highlight Australian Government innovations in the management and use of digital information. This year's awards attracted 13 applications from 11 agencies showcasing digital transformation initiatives. The awards were presented at the John Curtin School of Medical Research at the Australian National University last month.
