Tas - Netcom
Netcom is the network of Tasmanian regional heads and senior staff from Australian Government agencies. Netcom is a semi–formal network whose role is to help members share information, to encourage innovative practice and reform in public sector administration, and to facilitate whole–of–government relationships in Tasmania.
Netcom's approach is to facilitate Networking Forums to look at issues confronting the public service according to four main themes which are; APS profile, shared business, workforce and productivity.
Netcom is also interested in promoting 'Values' and 'Relationships'—to test both the decisions that we make and actions that we take to see the extent to which they support and maintain the Australian Public Service Values and Code of Conduct and the relationships we seek to foster, i.e. relations with the government and parliament, relations with the public, and inter–agency relations. Finally, we focus on the roles our people have in this and the responsibilities we have in helping them achieve those roles.

Merit and selection services
On behalf of the Merit Protection Commissioner, regional employees undertake Independent Selection Advisory Committees (ISACs). An ISAC is an independent three member committee that makes recommendations about the suitability of candidates for engagement at, promotion to, or assignment of duties at, classifications included in APS Classification Groups 1 to 6.
On behalf of the Public Service Commissioner, regional employees also participate in staff selection processes at EL 1/2 and APS level 6 and below, as well as scribing for non SES selection panels.
Merit protection and review
Useful references
The Australian Public Service Commission has a key role in providing independent external review of actions affecting individual APS employees. This role assists in giving effect to the policy of the Australian Government that APS agencies should achieve and maintain workplaces that encourage productive and harmonious working environments. It also helps to provide a fair system for review of decisions for APS employees.
The Commission's functions are not limited to the APS. On a fee-for-service basis, we can provide employment-related functions for State and Territory departments and authorities, local government bodies, private corporations and bodies and for Commonwealth authorities whose employees are not engaged under the PS Act.
If you would like more information about these services visit the merit protection and review page or contact:
Ms Diane De Fusco
Business Manager
Phone: (03) 8610 1588
Review of Actions
Local staff are available to fulfil the Merit Protection Commissioner's statutory functions such as conducting Promotion Review Committees (PRCs) and Reviews of Actions, and providing advice on procedural questions where appropriate.
Career advising service
The APS Commission provides a career advising service for APS employees who are facing retrenchment or have been approved by their agency to access career transition services. The service, available to employees who are referred to the APS Commission by their agency, focuses on providing either short-term intensive or one-off career advising sessions to individuals or groups, but can also provide a program specifically designed for an individual. The career advising sessions are designed to assist individuals to identify strategies and options they may wish to pursue and are tailored to the needs of the particular individual.
For more information go to the Career advising page or call your local advisor on 03 8610 1500.
