Educational qualifications

The APS workforce is increasingly becoming a graduate workforce. The employee survey continues to confirm this trend. Employees at all levels are increasingly likely to have such qualifications, regardless of whether they entered the APS through a specific graduate programme or through general recruitment. Results from the employee survey show that around 47% of APS employees have a bachelor’s degree or higher qualification. Data for APSED, while incomplete, shows a similar proportion with 51.9% of ongoing employees at June 2006 having graduate qualifications, an increase from 50.9% last year.9 Educational qualifications for newly engaged APS employees are discussed further below.

  1. The method used to calculate the proportion of employees with graduate or tertiary qualifications includes those with qualifications at bachelor degree and above. It excludes from the denominator those for whom no data was provided by agencies, and those who chose not to provide details for their highest educational qualification.
