Briefing Ministers
Programme Overview
The capacity to provide timely, compelling and concise advice to inform Ministers and support decision making is a vital capability for highperforming public service leaders. This programme provides an active experiential learning environment for public service leaders wanting to hone ministerial briefing skills and establish productive relations with advisers. The programme covers the development and role of question time briefs, ministerial talking points for media engagements, ministerial advisor briefing, hot issues briefing, ministerial submissions and second reading speeches.
Based on adult learning techniques, the programme involves participants in ‘real-life’ briefing scenarios that simulate the high-pressure and stakes nature of ministerial briefing. Participants will be introduced to effective briefing techniques and be able to workshop approaches that enhance relationships with ministers and advisers.
