The Australian Public Service Statistical Bulletin 2011–12 is a statistical overview of APS staffing produced on a financial year basis, as part of the State of the Service series. It provides details of staff employed under the authority of the Public Service Act 1999.

Harnessing Federalism: The missing key to successful reform

Mr Paul McClintock AO, Chairman of the COAG Reform Council and former Head of the Cabinet Policy Unit in the Australian Government, will deliver a public lecture on federalism and reform in Australia. Mr McClintock will also draw on his wider experience as current Chairman of Medibank Private Limited, Myer Holdings, Thales Australia, I-MED Network and the Institute of Virology to explore the opportunities and challenges presented by the federal structure of government in Australia.

Jawun – opportunities to contribute and learn for talented Executive Level staff

A positive evaluation of the Jawun pilot program has led to the establishment of a 5 year partnership for up to 52 APS employees each year to undertake secondments with Indigenous organisations.

APSC conducting evaluation of 2011 enterprise bargaining

The 2011 Australian Public Service Bargaining Framework sought to increase commonality of terms and conditions between APS agencies and, whilst there is evidence that this has been achieved, the APSC is now conducting a formal evaluation of enterprise agreements.

Review of APS classification arrangements

The APSC is currently examining existing APS classification arrangements and work level standards to ensure that they continue to meet the needs of APS agencies and employees. The Classification Review is encapsulated in Recommendation 6.1 of the Blueprint for Reform.

APS As One strategy launched in Canberra

Today Ministers Shorten and Gray launched the APS disability employment strategy to an invited group of dignitaries in Canberra. The strategy intends to renew the APS’s attention on disability employment and ensure a consistent approach is adopted across the APS.
