Conditions of engagement

Checklist
Note: This document has not been updated to reflect changes that may flow from the WorkChoices legislation enacted on 27 March 2006
The following checklist can be used to ensure that the key issues have been addressed when considering the imposition of section 22 conditions on an employee's engagement. Agency-specific requirements should be specified in agency policy and procedure documents.
I wish to impose a condition of engagement relating to:

| I have checked whether the person is an Australian citizen | ||
| I have decided to engage the person as a non-citizen | ||
| I have decided to engage the person, on condition that they seek and obtain Australian citizenship | ||
| I have checked the person's visa and work rights | ||
| formal qualifications | ||
| I need to see evidence of the person's formal qualifications | ||
| security clearance | ||
| I have considered the appropriate level of security clearance needed | ||
| character clearance | ||
| I have considered the appropriate type of character clearance needed | ||

| I have considered the appropriate level of health clearance needed | ||
| other conditions as appropriate | ||
| What I need to do: | ||
| impose more than one condition of engagement as separate conditions | ||
| include the need for each condition in the Gazette notice | ||
| set timeframes for each condition of engagement | ||
| include each condition of engagement in the employee's letter of engagement | ||
| receive acknowledgement from the employee that they are aware of and understand the condition(s) | ||
