State of the Service Series
Section 44 of the Public Service Act 1999 provides that the Public Service Commissioner must provide a report each year to the Minister for presentation to the Parliament, which includes a report on the state of the Australian Public Service during the year. The State of the Service report draws on a range of information sources including a survey sent to all APS agencies employing 20 or more staff under the PS Act and the results of the APS employee survey.
State of the Service Report
The State of the Service Report (SOSR) provides data and information on changing workforce trends and workforce capability. It also details the activities and human resource management practices of APS agencies.
The SOSR Exchange is your interface to the State of the Service report.

Employee survey results
The employee survey is an important tool for assessing the state of the APS. The survey data is particularly useful in tracking progress across many areas over time.

The 2012 Census sets out the findings for the Indigenous segment of the workforce under the same themes used in recent State of the Service reports: leadership and culture, human capital management and organisational effectiveness.
Microagency survey results
In early 2011, micro-agencies were invited to participate in a modified version of the State of the Service Report (SOSR) Employee Survey.
