Congratulations to the Department of Human Services (DHS) who recently joined the increasing number of APS agencies that have achieved their Indigenous employment targets.

With 5% of DHS staff identifying as Indigenous, the Department focuses on supporting staff through its mentoring and support network and cultural awareness and competency programs.

Underpinned by its 2015-17 Reconciliation Action Plan, DHS has a three year vision of how it will improve opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Improved representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the workforce is vital to ensuring the Commonwealth can capably respond to the needs of the community. For more information on Indigenous careers in the APS, visit http//:indigenouscareers.gov.au.
