Senior Executive Service leadership development
Consultants on the Commission’s Leadership, Learning & Development (LL&D) Panel provide a range of leadership development programmes and activities to strengthen the capability of the Senior Executive Service (SES) at the various levels. These include:
- design leadership, learning and development programmes and activities targeted at the senior executive level and linked to the related capabilities in the ILS.
- deliver and/or facilitate the delivery of leadership, learning and development programmes to senior executives either
- at a facility nominated by the Commission
- at a facility nominated by an Agency or
- in a residential format over a number of days
- evaluate the effectiveness of senior executive leadership, learning and development programmes and activities. This will involve the consultant ensuring that a programme evaluation is conducted at the conclusion of the training session(s) and may also involve evaluation of the behavioural change at a later stage, in the workplace.
Development programmes provided by consultants include:
- Financial Management for Senior Executives
- Managing Service Delivery – improve the delivery of services across agencies, to other government bodies and to the broader community. Identify and address gaps in services
- Managing in a Multi-generational Workplace – meet the challenges of managing a multi-generational workplace
- Strategic Thinking – gather strategic information, take strategic decisions, design of implementation strategies
- Mobility Across the Service – facilitate inter-agency staff mobility
- Managing Across Agency Boundaries – whole of government approach to strategic management. Cross-agency relationship building
- Balancing Performance and Conformance – perform within governance frameworks
- Public Accountability
- APS Environment and Context – work within the APS as an organisation
- SES Contribution – what it means at each level
- Managing by Influence – establish credibility and approach negotiations persuasively
- Managing Policy Development – public policy making process
- Delivering Government Policy Outcomes - translate policy decisions into programmes and services
- Managing the Media
- Building Capability – develop the required skills within the agency
- Setting the Vision – establishment of a shared long-term vision for the group, agency or across government
- Whole-of-government issues - public service agencies working across portfolio boundaries to achieve a shared goal and an integrated government response to particular issues.
- Building Relationships – develop and nurture internal and external relationships
- Managing from an Organisational Perspective
- Building Resilience – remain focused on the objectives even in difficult circumstances
- Managing Complexity (large projects/initiatives) – competing priorities, multi-tasking, contingency planning
- Managing in a Culturally Diverse Workplace – meet the challenges of managing and leading in a culturally diverse workplace
