How to use the suggested tools-for planning the evaluation

Making decisions about what and how to evaluate any aspect of learning and development should generally be made as part of the broad evaluation strategy for your organisation.

  1. Read and use the 'Prioritisation matrix' to help you make decisions about what aspects of learning and development you wish to evaluate. Also scan the 'Tips for engaging stakeholders' and references and resources available in this section of the website to gain a broad understanding of issues around planning your evaluation.
  2. Select the most appropriate tools for your purpose and context or use these to trigger other ideas.
  3. Adapt the tools for your own use.
  4. Apply the tools to assist you in making decisions about what and how to evaluate selected learning and development interactions, and create an evaluation plan.
