Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander development programmes

The Australian Public Service Commission (the Commission) is working towards improving the number of Indigenous Australians working in the Australian Public Service (APS) and their prospects for career development. The Commission offers a range of development programmes for Indigenous employees in the APS.

Participants in this workshop will experience opportunities to develop skills applicable to the workplace. They will gain increased awareness of career possibilities in the Australian Public Service, consider their own personal development options and career maps, and have the opportunity to develop strategies to achieve their professional dream.

This two-day workshop gives participants the opportunities to consider their career directions, increase awareness of working effectively in a whole-of-government environment and explores strategies to overcome barriers to job performance and career progression unique to Indigenous employees in the APS.

Career Trek

Indigenous Career Trek delivers a range of learning and development opportunities to support career development and advancement for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees at all levels in the Australian Public Service. 

Career Trek was designed to enhance access to career development opportunities for regionally based staff and those employed by small to medium sized agencies, as well as expanding opportunities for staff based in Canberra and other capital cities.

Scholarships

The Indigenous Scholarship Programme is designed to broaden the level of expertise and career progression opportunities for Indigenous employees in the APS through a number of different scholarships.

Programmes and events available in your State or Territory

While the Australian Public Service Commission national office is in Canberra, our programmes are accessible to the many employees located outside of Canberra through our regional offices.

We have regional offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. APS agencies in the Northern Territory and Tasmania are served from the Adelaide and Melbourne offices.
