Indigenous Career Ambassadors

The Australian Government, through the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations, provides a wide range of education, employment and business assistance for Indigenous Australians. I manage a small team delivering elements of the these programs. As a Team Leader my role is to look strategically at my region and develop place-based projects which focus on the needs of those Indigenous Australians in a more holistic approach.
For example my team and I, in consultation with parents, principals, local industry, local training organisations and others may develop a school to work transition model for Indigenous students. We may, as part of this process, identify opportunities for training and/or employment for parents or carers and link these with appropriate child care arrangements.
I enjoy the challenges of public sector employment and that the variety of employment opportunities which does allow for personal aspiration in terms of community engagement.
The APS has opportunities in regional and urban locations (and overseas) and the variety of departments and occupations coupled with good working conditions including flexibility and remuneration.
I firmly believe that the APS is an interesting and rewarding environment to work in and I continue to positively promote the opportunities through a variety of email networks and Indigenous employment forums.
As an individual I see myself as a student studying at the University of Life - constantly learning and developing, continually challenging myself and always assisting, mentoring and supporting others.
