Are you an Indigenous APS 4 to EL 1 employee, who has been an ongoing APS employee for a minimum of 12 months?
What's on your Horizon?
The Australian Public Service Commission’s (the Commission) Horizons secondment programme (‘Horizons’) 2009 is entering its 3rd year. First introduced in 2006 Horizons has been a proven success with goals to increase recruitment, development and retention of Indigenous employees in the APS.
Horizons is a unique opportunity, for Indigenous employees at the APS 4 level - EL1 level, to achieve career goals and enhance career progression opportunities through a 6 month secondment in an other APS agency. Horizons gives participants the opportunity to broaden both their exposure and knowledge of the various work environments and opportunities offered in the APS.
Horizon participants are given the opportunity to:
- develop and acquire new skills, knowledge and experience
- expand networks across the APS
- access professional coaching throughout the duration of the secondment to heighten the placement experience and effectively integrate newly acquired skills and expertise into longer term career plans.
There are real benefits for home agencies supporting a Horizons applicant to undertake a secondment within another agency.
These include:
- a $15,000 payment to assist in off-setting the costs associated with releasing employees
- support from the Commission in identifying and implementing secondment placements that provide opportunities for real skills development
- provision of an experienced professional coach, to ensure that each participant gain the most out of the experience
- an opportunity to build inter-agency relationships
- Indigenous employees returning with increased experience and capabilities that they will be able to use within their home agency.
Copies of the Application kit and application form are now available.
