Support for agencies

The Australian Public Service Commission works to support agencies to address the governments’ agenda for Indigenous employment in the federal public service. Some of the resources currently available to agencies are listed below

Developing an Indigenous Employment Strategy kit

The Commission is developing a tool to assist agencies to develop their own Indigenous Employment Strategy.  It will also provide examples of initiatives to improve the attraction, recruitment, retention, and development of Indigenous Australians in the APS.

The Kit is expected be available from this site in 2008.

Agencies who have current questions or are seeking advice on the development of an Indigenous Employment Strategy can also contact the Commission’s Indigenous Liaison Officer.

APS wide Indigenous recruitment programmes

As part of the APS Employment and Capability Strategy for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employees the Australian Public Service Commission coordinates centralised recruitment rounds of Indigenous graduates, cadets and trainees for employment in Australian Government Agencies.

Indigenous Australian Public Service Employee Network (IAPSEN)

IAPSEN is dedicated to helping Indigenous Australians improve their employment opportunities within the Australian Public Service. The network was established as an Australian Public Service Commission initiative in response to a need for Indigenous APS employees to have a means of networking with each other.

IAPSENs provide an important mechanism for Indigenous employees to support each other, share information and experiences and promote cultural awareness and respect in the wider APS.

The IAPSEN website is available at www.apsc.gov.au/iapsen
