Welcome

Welcome to our Brisbane IAPSEN.  BIAPSEN is for all Indigenous Australian Public Servants (APS) in Brisbane.  So come along to our meetings and find out what is happening in other APS agencies.

We hold our meetings over lunch as this presents an ideal opportunity to network with your fellow Brisbane Indigenous APS employees.  Our meetings include guest speakers, updates on what is happening in the APS, a segment on vacancies in other agencies, information on APSC Indigenous Programmes and general discussions.  Check out our calendar of events for up and coming meetings and activities.

Mark these dates in your diaries and be sure to give your managers and workplaces plenty of notice to ensure your attendance at these meetings.  If you are new to the APS and would like to attend BIAPSEN meetings please email brisbane.iapsen@apsc.gov.au and we will update our records and add you to our emailing list.

The BIAPSEN committee works hard in organising meetings and events so that you have the opportunity to network with fellow Indigenous APS employees.  So please support your Brisbane IAPSEN by attending meetings.  Your attendance and contribution is essential to the existence of the network.

And finally a big thank you to our Brisbane Indigenous APS employees who have continued to support our network and a big welcome to any new APS Indigenous employees in Brisbane.  We look forward to a fantastic year ahead.

2008 Brisbane IAPSEN NAIDOC Event

On Monday 7 July, the Australian Customs Service, the Australian Electoral Commission, the Australian Bureau of Statistics and the APS Commission combined resources to staff an information booth at the 2008 Official NAIDOC Launch held at the Southbank Cultural Forecourt in Brisbane.

In partnership with the APS Commission, the Brisbane IAPSEN committee organised and managed the event as their Annual NAIDOC activity.

Peter Anderson, Regional Director Queensland urged Indigenous APS employees to participate where possible and saw this as an opportunity for Indigenous employees to network and to celebrate NAIDOC week.

Kelleigh Ryan (ABS), Loretta Griffin (Customs), Tim Scott (ABS), Phil Ahmat (ATO) and Michelle Schoonbeek (APSC) coordinated the rostering arrangements for their agencies.

The ATO was well represented with Indigenous Trainees Isaac Simon, Shantell Kelly, Jessica Jobson, Jackleen Humphreys and undergraduate Samantha Taylor all eager to assist on the day.

The event was an excellent platform in promoting the Indigenous APS Employees Network and employment opportunities for Indigenous Australians.

Combining with other APS agencies in celebrating NAIDOC was a huge success and sure to be an ongoing annual event for the Brisbane IAPSEN Calendar.
