NextStep is the new entry-level traineeship program into the Australian Public Service (APS) for people with disability. NextStep gives you the opportunity to gain ongoing employment in one of several APS agencies through a single centralised recruitment process.
As a trainee through NextStep, you will participate in a 12-month training program to develop skills necessary to progress throughout your career. Successfully completing the training program will earn you a Certificate 3 in Government, equip you with a range of skills that will allow you to succeed in the workforce, and continue to develop your capabilities.
Certificate III in Government
The Certificate III in Government provides participants with the necessary skills for entry level roles in the public sector. Successful completion of this course will provide participants with the skills to engage with internal and external stakeholders, apply best practice in ethical and legislative standards, and develop sound decision making and problem solving skills.
All participants will undertake training over a 12-month period, with a combination of theoretical, practical and on the job learning. McMillan Training in collaboration with the APSC will centrally coordinate the training.
This program will support participants in a safe and sensitive environment to successfully complete their Certificate III in Government. Reasonable adjustments and alternative assessment methods can be provided to all participants in the NextStep program.
To be eligible for the 2018 intake, you must:
- be an Australian citizen
- have successfully obtained a year 12 certificate or higher between January 2014 and February 2019
- have disability
- 28 May 2018 – 1 July 2018: Applications open
- 23 July – 10 August: Face to face assessments in most capital cities
- 20 August – 25 August: Offers of employment
- November 2018: Successful trainees commence in agencies
