The Australian Public Service Commissioner has been tracking the views of APS employees about their leadership, their workplace and conditions of work since 2003. These views have been important in identifying the priorities for workforce development across the APS. This year, we are again conducting a census of all APS employees.
Your opinions are very important to the future development of the APS—we need to know what you think are our strengths, and of course, our weaknesses. We want to go on trying to make the APS a better place to work. To do this we need your help.
We have appointed ORC International to conduct the online census. The results will be completely confidential, with no APS employee shown any completed surveys and no individual name associated with any of the results.
The employee census will be sent to all APS employees at all classifications by ORC International. Every response received by the Commission will play an important role in understanding what APS employees think and feel about their workplaces and will help contribute to the Commissioner's independent assessment of the state of the APS.
The results of the census will provide a key source of information for the State of the Service report. From August, these results are released in short weekly updates on our website with a targeted report presented to Parliament at the end of the year.
Data is only used is an aggregated or de-identified form and no data will be used or provided that allows the identification of any individual. Your agency will receive aggregated results for internal use and reporting.
You will be invited to complete the census online and will be given reasonable time to do so during work hours. You have over four weeks to return your response.
If you have additional questions or concerns, please contact your agency census coordinator or call the APS Census Enquiry Line on 1800 464 926.
