Disability strategy launched

On 14th May 2012 Minister Gray launched the APS ‘As One’ disability employment strategy. It links into the National Disability Strategy, launched in February 2011, that includes the key policy objective of improving the workforce participation of people with a disability across Australia.

The As One strategy will be implemented over the period 2012-2014 and has two imperatives:

  • The transformation of heart and mind, awakening the APS to the benefits of diversity. It sets out to change the way people think about disability and,
  • To give our employees the opportunities and know-how to create a diverse workforce.

The complete strategy and support material can be found on our As-One Disability employment Strategy page at and it covers how the APSC will respond to the challenges in the strategy and work across the APS to achieve its aims.

It also includes a summary of actions that includes fostering inclusive cultures, increasing agency demand for candidates with a disability, improving recruitment processes to enable more candidates with a disability to enter the APS and, improving leadership across the APS.
