Frequently asked questions
What are the APS employment classifications?
All positions within the APS should have an equivalent APS classification. Generally, agencies will describe and/or group classifications according to their own specific responsibilities. For example, Centrelink describes an APS Level 3 classification as a Centrelink Band 2 and incorporates both the APS 3 and APS 4. This arrangement (when it covers more than one APS classification) is described as a broadband classification.
The APS classification should always appear within the Gazette notice (www.apsjobs.gov.au) together with the salary range that will apply. Unless otherwise stated, employer superannuation contributions are not included in the salary range linked to the classification.
