Training and development

There is a range of training programs available for public servants at all levels in the Australian Public Service (APS). Following is some detail about the programmes offered by several agencies including the Australian Public Service Commission (APSC) and the Australian Government Information Management Office (AGIMO). If you require further information please contact the agency.

APSC APS 1-6 level programmes
The APS Commission offers a wide range of learning and development opportunities for officers at the APS 1-6 levels. For more information about the APS 1-6 programmes, please call (02) 6202 3778.

APSC Executive level programmes
The Executive Level (EL) Series was specifically designed for Executives in the APS and was developed through consultation with a range of agencies. All of these programmes are evaluated and reviewed to ensure their continued quality and relevance. For more information about the EL programmes, please call (02) 6202 3778.

APSC Senior Executive (SES) programmes
The Senior Executive Leadership Capability Framework defines the capabilities required of senior executive leaders in the APS. The suite of development programmes and services provided by the APS Commission have been specifically designed to reflect this Framework, and enhance the performance of the APS. For further information about any Senior Executive development programmes please contact the Programme Manager on (02) 6202 3780.

Senior Executive Leadership Capability Framework
Leaders need to be particularly strategic and agile in responding to the changing environment and achievement of whole of government outcomes. The Senior Executive Leadership Capability (SELC) framework is an articulation of the critical success factors for senior APS leaders. In particular, it describes the capabilities and behaviours that support high performance.

Integrated Leadership System
"Defined capabilities are critical to effective whole of government work - both in terms of leadership and the range of technical and implementation skills called for to address complex policy and service delivery issues." The ILS provides capability development guidance for individuals and agencies in the form of descriptions and behaviours for Executive and Senior Executive levels in the APS. It contains practical tools for individuals and agencies to assess and chart leadership development needs. For more information contact (02) 6202 3791.

ICT Business Case Training
AGIMO will provide Australian Government agencies free training in business case development and use of the ICT Business Case Guide and Tools on a train-the-trainer basis from October 2006 and then as requested by agencies.
