APS Commission Graduate Development Programme
The Graduate Development Programme runs for 11 months and includes an extensive learning and development programme combined with on-the-job training.
A key feature of the learning and development programme is the opportunity to complete a Diploma in Government and several electives from the Commission’s public programme learning and development calendar. In addition to undertaking this training graduates have the opportunity to participate in the Commission’s internal learning and development programme.

About the Commission
The Australian Public Service Commission promotes good practice in managing people, supports leadership and learning and development in the Australian Public Service (APS), fosters ethical behaviour and workplaces that value diversity.
We also have an important evaluation role in working with agencies to ensure that the APS is performing effectively and consistently with the APS Values.
The recruitment process
Applications
Applications for the 2009 Graduate Development Programme closed on 31 July 2008.
Interview process
Applicants selected for interview will be contacted in August, with interviews held in Canberra during September. Interstate applicants selected for interview will have flights and accommodation provided.
Offers of Employment
Successful applicants will be contacted during October, and made and offer of employment.
Learning and Development Programme
As part of the Commission’s graduate development programme, graduates will be provided with a comprehensive induction and formalised training programme, at least three diverse and challenging work rotations and support from a range of staff including previous graduates.
Salary and conditions
Graduate employees in the Commission will be paid a salary of between $47,445 and $48,921 pa in the development year. The commencement salary will depend on the level of qualifications and work history. Generous superannuation benefits also apply.
On successful completion of the graduate development programme, graduates will be placed at the APS 3/4 level with a salary in the range $55,007- $58,000 pa.

Relocation assistance
The Commission will provide relocation assistance and temporary accommodation for successful applicants. Details will be made available upon selection.
The facilities
Our brand new building is located at 16 Furzer Street Phillip ACT. The building includes spacious meeting rooms, a café, modern interior design and relaxing breakout areas on each floor.
We are centrally located near the Woden town centre and bus interchange. In your lunch hour you could comfortably visit the nearby gymnasium or take a leisurely bike ride on one of Canberra’s many cycle paths. There are lots of café’s and restaurants nearby to lunch at or you can enjoy a swim at the Phillip swimming pool located just across the road.
Living in Canberra
Canberra is located about 150 kilometres inland from the South Coast beaches of NSW. Sydney is an easy 3 hour drive and Melbourne is either an eight hour drive or a quick 50 minute flight. It is the gateway to the ski fields of the Snowy Mountains, within easy reach by car or bus.
Canberra offers a unique lifestyle, combining the bustle of city life with peaceful parks, sparkling lakes and the best sporting and recreational venues in Australia. Many families move to Canberra to take advantage of the excellent schools, short distances to and from work and the healthy lifestyles.

Social Network of Graduates
Every year, more than 500 graduates come to Canberra to join government agencies. The Social Network of Graduated (SNoG) is the social network developed for connecting these graduated within the public sector in Canberra. It is run by graduates for graduates.
SNoG organise an orientation to Canberra and a variety of social events help graduates meet people across the APS. SNoG also provides information about living in Canberra and working in the APS.
